Early Hitler Youth Daggers

HJ-5004 Early Restored Robert Klaas Hitler Youth
Here's an early restored piece. The leather and grip plates have been replaced, also the blade has been cleaned hard. The restoration was done well and if it doesn't bother you it's a solid piece. The blade is worn to the high areas and still looks good. There is evidence of pitting but most of it has been buffed away removing the motto at the same time. The small Robert Klass maker mark looks good. The blade rates Exc/Exc+. The leather buffer pad remains in place. The scabbard has a couple of bumps to it, yet the finish is in great shape. The replacement leather obviously looks great. The snap works well. The hilt and pommel have a bit of wear yet it still retains 97% of its plating. The original grip plates have a small split to the back. The HJ diamond is perfect retaining 100% of its enamel. A great early restored example. Overall Exc+.

HJ-377 Early Anton Wingen Hitler Youth Dagger
Here's an early example for you! The blade on this one has been cleaned and sharpened at some point in its life. Good portions of its motto remain and the marker mark is beautifully executed! The blade rates Exc. The leather buffer pad remains intact. The scabbard is in great shape. There is age wear throughout along with a small pressure mark to the reverse. The leather is nice and dark remaining in great shape. The hilt is well worn. The black checkered celluloid grip plates are in great shape being crack and chip free. The HJ diamond rocks ever so slightly and shows some hits to the enamel. An early piece at a bargain. Overall rates Exc/Exc+.

HJ-376 Herm. Konejung A.-G. Hitler Youth Dagger
Here's an early Hitler Youth! The bright blade shows some small pitting, age grey and scratches throughout but no sharpening! There is no ricasso and it has a nice motto and maker mark! The blade rates Exc+/Exc++. The leather buffer pad remains intact. The black painted scabbard has lost its finish to the obverse (it appears to have been cleaned off). The reverse has the majority of its finish intact. The scabbard leather looks to have been period repaired and remains serviceable. The snap works well. The solid nickel hilt looks good. There is some even wear throughout the hilt. The black checkered grip plates look good. There is one hairline crack to the reverse below the lower rivet. The HJ diamond retains 100% of its enamel work and wiggles. A decent piece that is very early and needs a good home! Overall rates Exc+.

HJ-362 Henckels Hitler Youth Dagger
Here's an early piece. The blade on this example rates Exc. There has been some sharpening, and the tip has been shortened. There is age grey throughout. The maker mark looks nice, the motto looks good and there is a mark: "Krespach" to the reverse by the buffer pad. The dent-free scabbard looks to be a period repaint. The hilt has some damage to it, the finger guard looks to have been bent (due to the cracks where obvious pressure has pushed on it), there is also some wear to the plating where the snap lies. The majority of the plating on the hilt remains intact. The grip plates look good, with exception to one chip on the reverse. The "wiggly" diamond looks great retaining all of its enamel. The leather on the scabbard is in excellent shape, with an L. S. mark to the reverse. Overall this piece is early but suffers some. Rates Exc

HJ-341 Early Gräwisco HJ Knife
Here's one straight from the Vet's family last week. This blade retains its basic original shape with some sharpening and scuffs and age gray. The manufacturer and their logo are stamped to the reverse. Original buffer is intact. Blade is Exc. Fittings are plated steel with 98% of the original plating intact. Undamaged grip plates are well fit and secured with unbuggered nickel rivets. The early small diamond has perfect enamel. Painted scabbard shows period wear with more than 50% of the paint worn off. The thick brown leather is LFS marked with the oak leaf and shows the light wear. Exc+

HJ-302 Early J.A. Henckels, HJ Knife
The blade shows age, scratches and evidence of sharpening. Rates VG. The reverse is correctly and deeply stamped with the markers name and trademark logo above the words, "Ges. Geschützt" meaning patent pending. Although this had a motto at one time it has been worn down and no evidence of it remains. Leather buffer is intact. Fittings retain 98% original plating to the steel based hilt. The back of the pommel has well as the rest shows small hits and wear from use. Grip plates are perfect and the early small size diamond wiggles. The grips are mounted with early nickel rivets. The diamond enamel has a couple wee chips. Scabbard-Retains 70% of original painted surface with wear and chipping. The black leather shows wear and is still supple. It could use a sprucing up with some shoe polish. The snap functions fine. HJ-353 Early Anton Wingen HJ Knife
This blade retains its basic original shape with some sharpening and scuffs and water stains, I say that and a decent motto remains. The manufacturer and their logo are stamped to the reverse. Original buffer is intact. Blade is Exc. Fittings are plated steel with 98% of the original plating intact. Undamaged grip plates are secured with unbuggered nickel rivets. As with most Wingen grip plates these have shrunk as bit, not sure why Wingen plates are notorious for this, likely something to do with the bakelite formula they used. The early small diamond has perfect enamel. Painted scabbard shows period wear with more than 90% of the paint remaining. The thick brown leather has a single rivet lost where the leather meets the scabbard. As a result the leather can rotate around the remaining rivet. Exc+

HJ-392 Transitional (RZM M7/11) 1939 E. Knecht & Co. Dagger
Here's a salty transitional one for you! The blade on this one is a bit rough. It has been sharpened and modified to be a bowie style. In the factory you ask? I'm not sure, I know some were so I'll call it period modified. There is age grey, scratches and light pitting throughout. The tip, fit and the maker marks look great. The blade rates Exc. The leather buffer pad remains intact. The scabbard is a nice example with some paint loss yet it remains dent free. The leather is in great condition! The snap works well, as it should. The hilt, grip and pommel are well worn and have lost plating. There is a crack on the back grip plate. The HJ diamond is near perfect with 100 % enamel coverage! Overall Exc.

HJ-5005 Transitional RZM M7/66 Carl Eickhorn 1940 Restored Hitler Youth
Here's an restored transitional example. The leather and grip plates have been replaced, also the blade has been cleaned. The restoration was done well and if it doesn't bother you it's a nice piece at a reasonable price. The blade does still look good with a lot of crossgrain and dark '40' indicating the year of manufacture, RZM and Eickhorn serrated tail marker marks. It is tightly secured and the fit and tip are great. The cleaned blade still rates Exc+. The leather buffer pad remains in place. The scabbard is in excellent shape with a super finish. The replacement scabbard leather is in excellent shape and the snap works well. The hilt and pommel are a bit worn to the edges yet it retains 97% of its plating. The original grip plates look good. HJ-358 Transitional Eickhorn Hitler Youth Dagger
This Hitler Youth is in rough condition but has a great price. The blade shows some age grey/wear throughout. The riccasso is marked with the year of manufacture which was always the habit of Eickhorn "40". The maker marks are clearly visible. Blade rates Exc+. The leather buffer pad is intact. The fittings also show some wear and plating loss. The grip plates are nicely secured with nickel rivets. The diamond is perfect and slightly wiggles which is always nice to see. The painted black scabbard shows heavy wear removing all the paint to the obverse, the reverse looks fine with very light wear and paint loss. The reverse is maker marked as well as having the riccasso stamped with the RZM designation and year of manufacture, "1939". Blade is a Exc example. Original brown buffer is intact. HJ-306 Transitional C.&R. Linder RZM 7/15 HJ Knife
Here's a decent mottoed example. The blade shows wear, spotting and stains as well as normal scuffs and sharpening. I say this and the blade is full length and retains it's original shape. The reverse is maker marked as well as having the RZM designation and logo. Blade is a Exc example. Original brown buffer is intact. Fittings are plated steel with 95% of the original plating intact, just some loss from normal wear exactly where I like to see it- on the pommel area where the retaining strap holds the knife in its scabbard. Grip plates are secured with nickel rivets and are chip and crack free. The wiggly small early diamond is perfect. Leather scabbard shows wear but is all intact and supple. The scabbard body shows paint wear. Exc+

HJ-346 Transitional RZM 7/36 Hörster HJ Knife
Here's a decent example purchased from the Vet's grandson. This one is well worn but still has some interesting features. The blade shows wear, spotting and has been sharpened. Ok, I say that and the motto is still nice and clear. The reverse is maker marked RZM 7/36 to the riccasso. Blade is a Exc example. Original black buffer is intact. Fittings are plated steel with 90%+ of the original plating intact, just some loss from normal wear exactly where I like to see it- on the pommel area where the retaining strap holds the knife in its scabbard. The scabbard body shows paint wear and oxidizing. Exc

HJ-370 Transitional Hartkopf & Co. RZM M7/40/37 Hitler Youth Dagger
A nice transitional piece here! The blade on this one is better than most. It continues to have a dark motto, maker mark and RZM logo, which is tough to come across that anymore...There are light scratches throughout and it may have been ever-so-slightly sharpened to its cutting edge. There is also some darkening to both sides of its surface. Despite that, the early mottoed, double maker marked, blade continues to remain in good shape and rates a conservative Exc+. One other wee thing, look at the maker mark again. See of the manufacturers name is stamped but the RZM mark is etched? So what's with that? If you look back at the history of these things this all begins to make sense. RZM came out with regulations one day requiring manufacturers to RZM mark their blades. All blades in production had to be reprocessed adding the RZM mark hence we have the blades going through two marking operations. Neat when one understands all that went into these things. The original leather buffer pad remains intact, giving the scabbard the proper seal. The scabbard's original paint is 90%+ intact with some scratches to its surface (mostly towards its tip). The scabbard 'pig skin' leather remains flexible and in good shape. The nickel plated hilt looks good with a bit of plating loss to its high areas and where the scabbard leather has rubbed over time. The black checkered grip plates have a slight wiggle although are in excellent shape, with no chips, cracks or nicks. The HJ diamond has some enamel loss. This piece has a cool maker mark and is overall in pretty good shape. This piece rates Exc+/Exc++.

HJ-5019 Transitional H&F. Lauterjung RZM M7/6 Hitler Youth Dagger
Here's a great piece that has been taken care of! The blade on this one is awesome! It's tough to come by them like this anymore. There is some age grey and light surface scratches throughout. The dark motto and maker marks are beautifully executed, much of the crossgrain is intact and the tip and fit are perfect! The blade rates Exc++. The original black leather buffer pad remains intact. The black painted scabbard is in great shape. The painted enamel coverage is better than 90% and it remains dent free! The leather on the scabbard is in awesome shape! It is not frail, the button works as it should and it retains its original black finish! The plated hilt and pommel have no bubbling (as we often see) and they retain more than 95% of its plating. The black celluloid checkered grips are in perfect condition! They are tightly secured by two unmessed with rivets. The HJ diamond retains 100% of its enamel and is nicely fit and detailed! This piece is an excellent example and one I would definitely recommend! This piece rates in at Exc++.

Here's one that's price to go! The blade on this one rates VG. It has been heavily sharpened and there is age to the blade with pitting and spotting throughout. It does have two nice maker marks and evidence of a motto. The original leather buffer pad remains intact. The black enameled scabbard has lost most of its finish yet remains dent free. The leather is in decent shape, with the exception of the retaining strap that has been repaired with what looks like electric tape. It's all there but fragile and will break if you mess with it. The hilt continues to retain most of its plating. The split looks to have been period repaired and it's all solid. The HJ diamond looks good retaining 97% of its enamel. Overall Exc.

The blade does remain nice and bright with beautiful crossgraining, a perfect tip, an excellent fit and nicely executed RZM motto with its date! The blade rates Exc+. HJ-378 RZM M7/3 (Kuno Ritter) Personalized
Here's a neat one! If you are a guy who only wants textbook just go to the next dagger, this is not for you. The blade on this example is really unique as it depicts a swastika motif to the obverse. Where and who I do not know, From what I see it does not look to be a factory job rather a personalization. Perhaps done by a Jeweler. Guys there is no way to prove when this was done, I have no reason to believe the work is anything but period. As I say if that's gonna keep you from sleeping forget it. If you like something that is a bit different I think this is very cool! The blade on this one is in decent shape. The cutting edge has been sharpened, but the tip and fit look great. The reverse of the blade is stamped with the RZM M7/3 maker mark. The blade rates Exc/Exc+. The leather buffer pad remains intact. The scabbard has two dents, and age-toning throughout. The blade is a killer example perfect crossgrain and just the slightest hints of age. No sharpening. Certainly NM, The reverse riccasso is correctly stamped with the RZM designation. Leather buffer is intact. Uncleaned fittings retain 97% original nickel plating to the zinc based hilt. Grip plates are uncracked however this was denazified, someone pried off the diamond, leaving a slight chip next to the orifice and rub marks.
