The Reverse reads: "Zum Andenken An Den Hundertsten Geburtstag Des Grossen Kaisers Wilhelm I 1797-22 Maerz - 1897" (In commemoration of the hundredth birthday of the great Kaiser Wilhelm I 1797 - 22 March - 1897). The medal was awarded on 22 March 1897, the hundredth birthday of Kaiser Wilhelm I, to all military on active service and to the veterans of the wars of 1864, 1866 and 1870. Ostermann, founded in 1812 by Gottfried Bernhard Loos (1774-1843). Kaiser Wilhelm I (1797-1888) became King of Prussia in 1861 and Emperor of a united Germany on 18 January 1871. Ok, guys sorry I have no idea what this is called, what I do know is that it arrived with a whole group of Imperial and 3rd Reich stuff I will be listing over the next few weeks. I believe it's some sort of plaque that was to be put on a trophy after engraved? That's my best guess. These are 3" x 2 1/4" The ones piece has undamaged enamel work. Exc++

M-1220 Interesting group of Gymnastics medals and tinnies
Gymnastics medals and tinnies mounted on length of ribbon. The whole thing is in fabulous condition. The black, white and red cross with the Bavarian colors of blue/white in the center with crossed swords is fairly rare. It reads, Kolonial u. Marine Truppen, Bamberg u. Umgeb. gegr.1903. This means Colonial and Marine Troops (assoc.) of Bamberg and neighbouring areas, founded 1903. It's missing a small ribbon w/anchor device, but it's still rare and very nice. A small gem. Bamberg is fairly removed from the ocean so anything nautically-related should be considered scarce. It's really a wonderful unit and I'm certain there's some collector with taste sophisticated enough to realize that. For what it is, it's top-of-the-line. more pics and more!
