This page's last update: July 4, 2010 ![]() 1921 Pattern Oh I do so love these. They are exceedingly scarce and very beautiful daggers. These were exactly the same dagger as the 1919 pattern with the exception that these used a brass scabbard. Blade is a plain double fullered example that rates Mint- with a bit of plating flaked off right at the crossguard on one side. It's tiny and I've blown it up 10X for you. Other than that this blade is mint. The blade retains it's textbook original buffer pad. Fittings are all hand detailed brass with quality finish throughout. Look at the details on the pommel and the crossguard!! Look how the "cresting waves" on the pommel are all hand worked. Man, this is why we collect!!! Finally peek at the very top and you will see the tang is peened over making this dagger impossible to disassemble without wrecking it. The scabbard has the desirable "figure-of -eight" style bands common in this period. The lightning bolt pattern is deeply engraved. The scabbard is undented but there are small hits and marks from honest period wear. Screw is intact. Grip is chip and crack-free piece of animal horn. It does have tiny striations that are normal on this material when it ages 90 years! Finally this dagger was owned by the Reichsmarine as it retains it's Navy property marks to the throat and the underside of the crossguard. We know from period references that officer's were required to purchase their own daggers however, candidates and NCO's were not, and used these Navy owned pieces. Neat, I always like these wee details, sorta gives a dagger a story. All the patina matches on this example. Overall the dagger is in excellent shape. Exc++ $2295
Here is a fine example of one of the most desired Navy dagger configurations. Blade is a sailing ship motif etch is a bit lightened but is very clean. Properly maker marked on the obverse with the stamped WKC knight bust. The tip is perfect. It rates Exc++. The blade retains it's textbook red felt buffer pad. Fittings are nicely detailed brass with quality finish throughout. Button functions quite fine. The scabbard has the desirable "reef knot" style bands. These are normally associated with early daggers and found often on but not always on 1st model Navies. The scabbard is undented and the screws are unturned. It does show evidence of normal use and wear with small bruises and marks. Grip is chip and crack-free dark orange trylon. The portepee is a golden bullion type that is the most desired type that collectors are always seeking. It looks good. All the patina matches on this example. Overall the dagger is in excellent shape Exc++ $1695 HOLD
Here's a piece that has been there. It shows lots of period wear yet remains in good collectible condition. Blade is a fouled anchor etch that is nice and crisp. It's got honest wear with just a dot of age near the obverse tip and some age to the riccasso. It shows in/out marks but that's it. Properly maker marked on the reverse by Eickhorn with the mid-period maker mark stamped, (not etched). The tip is perfect. It rates Exc+/Exc++. The blade retains it's textbook tan buffer pad. Fittings are detailed brass with excellent quality finish throughout. Button functions quite fine. The pommel is nicely detailed. The scabbard shows lots of period wear with some minor bruises and hits but no big dents . Both throat retaining screws are intact but one appears to be a replacement. Grip is chip and crack free, whoops, ok there's a ¼" hairline down from the pommel to the side. This would disappear with a portepee. Overall the dagger shows wear and has lost all it's lacquer and gilt while being a good original example. Exc+ $750
Here is a fine example of a 1st Model navy that was later upgraded according to regulations in 1938 to the new Nazi style pommel. Blade is a fouled anchor motif etch. It is a bit lightened but is very clean. Properly maker marked on the obverse with the stamped WKC knight bust. The tip is perfect. It rates Exc++. The blade retains it's buffer pad. Fittings are nicely detailed brass with quality finish throughout. center drilled type button functions quite fine. The scabbard has the desirable "reef knot" style bands. These are normally associated with early daggers and found often on but not always on 1st model Navies. The scabbard is undented and the screws are unturned. It has nice gilt throughout. It does show evidence of normal use and wear with small bruises and marks. Grip is chip and crack-free dark celluloid over wood. The pommel is the textbook upgrade with the threaded pedestal and large chamfered bottom, (see Wittmann's Navy ref. pg 240). All the patina matches on this example. Overall the dagger is in excellent shape Exc++/NM $1650 HOLD(pp)
Here's one that's been there yet is still a good collectible example. Plain blade is in Mint- condition with a tiny bit of clouding that only holds it back a bit. It is unmarked. The tip is perfect. The blade retains it's buffer pad. Fittings are detailed brass with excellent quality finish throughout. Button functions quite fine. The pommel is nicely detailed but of you look at the reverse you will see that the back of the eagles head got ground down somehow? Who knows? but it was a very long time ago cause it's all patinaed to mach the rest of the dagger. It looks far worse than it is blown up 10x and it's not noticeable from the front. The scabbard shows lots of period wear with some minor bruises but no dents . Both throat retaining screws are intact. Grip has a fine hairline at the top top the side of the pommel, again it's nothing. This would disappear with a portepee. Overall the dagger shows lots of wear and is a great buy for a guy who wants a nice blade. Exc+ $625 HOLD(mh)
Rare rare rare! Here's a piece missing from most 3rd Reich collections. Many are afraid of it cause they made these pre 3rd Reich and it can be difficult to verify the period they were made. Blade full length unsharpened example. It's got some staining and evidence it's been cleaned. It is properly marked on the reverse with the stamped Wagner and Lange maker mark used during the 3rd Reich. The tip is perfect. It's tang is secured with an unturned waterproof nut in the end of the grip. It rates Exc+/Exc++ which is really good for a knife with a steel blade for use in salt water. The hilt of this thing is a missive thing that just weighs a ton. It's all turned on a lathe and finally the grip rings have been knurled. Finally is 3rd Reich issue stamped as seen by the Eagle on the side of the grip. Next to the blade we have a fine thread that you screw the scabbard onto and snug up to a leather washer. The scabbard again is turned and polished prior to the assembly of a carry band that was snapped onto a diving suit. These were considered tools not dress daggers. The inside is threaded to mate with the hilt and provide a snug fit. The top of the carry band is Marine marked. The scabbard is undented. All the patina matches on this example. Overall the dagger is in excellent shape. Exc++ $3995
