Red Cross

RC-76 Red Cross Leader
Here one that just landed from the deep south. The blade is an Exc/Exc++ example with some age spotting, the worse being to the obverse. It has excellent crossgrain. No pitting or sharpening. The leather blade buffer is in place. The hilt is a zinc based detailed casting with a few dots of lifting and certainly rates 98%+. The pommel as well shows a few dots of lifting and the tang nut cover has at some point been turned. These fittings are set off by a perfect trylon deep orange colored grip it's dirty and needs a cleaning as does the rest of the dagger but I sell 'em the way I get 'em.. The undented plated scabbard has wear and plating loss. The throat is retained by two screws. The scabbard bands terminate with two square holes. This configuration identifies this dagger as the Red Cross variant. Finally finishing this example is a nice post-war portepee. All the patina matches. Exc+

RC-61 Red Cross EM
Here's a very collectible example at a reasonable price. The blade of this hewer has been cleaned and is bright with some crossgrain intact. There are a few age stains. The leather washer is in place. I rate the blade Exc+. The hilt fittings of this example shows good plating say better than 95%. The medallion has fine vaulting to the swastika on the bird’s chest and the cross in its talons. The obverse crisp checkered grip plate and the reverse smooth plate are in fine shape being crack and chip-free. All screws are intact. The period repainted scabbard shell suffers a dent towards the lower obverse fitting. The fittings match the look of the hilt. The lower being a slip fit, this type normally is associated with R D. Lüneschloss. Finally this piece comes with a Police portepee. This is exactly as it came in. Many would think this wrong but not necessarily so, often these guys shared membership in multi-disciplines and dual memberships allowing them to own a couple daggers/accoutrements. We often see this on Vet purchase pieces. Rates Exc+

RC-60 Red Cross EM
Good example out of a Vet's estate last week. The blade of this hewer is bright and shiny with all the crossgrain intact. There are a few odd blemishes but nothing to worry about it's real clean. The leather washer is in place. I rate the blade Exc++. The hilt fittings of this example are fully plated rating 98% with just the usual microscopic bubbling we some time see and a bit of wear around the pommel edges. The medallion has fine vaulting to the swastika on the bird’s chest and the cross in its talons. The obverse crisp checkered grip plate and the reverse smooth plate are in fine shape being crack and chip-free. All screws are intact and unturned. The scabbard shell is straight throughout with original black paint being 93% intact. The paint shows crazing, minor scratches and some oxidizing the worse of which it to the reverse just below the frog.  The fittings match the look of the hilt, the lower being retained with 2 screws. This type normally is associated with  Klaas. Included is a good frog that is marked "B" to the reverse. The frog is the textbook type that is quality sewn with all the stitching intact and riveted with 4 aluminum rivets. A good complete example.
