Red Cross

RC-53 Social Welfare Leader
Beauty blade is a polished example with 100% of crossgrain. It is unmarked, as it should be. Blade retains its needle-like tip. There is a light bit of age peppering toward the tip. I have gone to great extents to show you the worse possible view. Rates Exc++.  The brown-leather blade buffer is in place. The hilt retains 99% of it's plating with four or five bubbles to the top of the pommel. the finish may appear a bit dull and that's only cause is hasn't been cleaned in 30 years. If you want to polish it up the hilt will brighten back up. The roundel backgrounds are all pebbled setting off the eagle. The grip is a lemon color with no chips or cracks. The scabbard plating again is excellent I would say 99.%+. There are no dents or hits or anything! It is straight and true. The suspension rings have the round holes that signify this was for Social Welfare use. The throat is fairly thick and is retained by 2 unturned screws. The pomel nut has been turned at some point but it's not messed up like so many I see. Exc++

RC-44 Red Cross Leader

Beauty blade is a polished example with 100% of crossgrain. It is unmarked, as it should be. Blade retains its needle-like tip. There are a couple wee marks to the reverse that I have tried to give the very worse views of.  Rates easily Exc++.  The brown-leather blade buffer is in place. The hilt retains 100% of it's plating with no loss, very tough to find on these leader pieces. There is some patina to the backgrounds that sets off the eagle. The grip is a pumpkin color with no chips or cracks. The scabbard plating again is excellent I would say 99.%+. Again there are a couple dots to the reverse that I have tried hard to give you clear shots of. There are no dents or hits or anything! It is straight and true. The throat is fairly thick and is retained by 2 unturned screws. The pomel nut has been turned at some point but it's not messed up like so many I see. Textbook example with a portepee that shows fraying to the stem. Exc++

RC-54 Killer Red Cross 1 Leader
Beauty blade is a polished example with 100% of crossgrain. It is unmarked, as it should be. Blade retains its needle-like tip. If you look hard you can see some runner marks but that's it!  Rates Mint- need I say more?  The brown-leather blade buffer is in place. The crossguard retains 100% of it's plating with no loss. There is some patina to the backgrounds that sets off the eagle. The grip is a pumpkin color with no chips or cracks. The scabbard plating again is excellent I would say 99.9%+ with 4 dots and when I say dots I mean dots, I have taken great pains to photograph these. Turn the scabbard 2degress and they disappear, you guys who collect this stuff know what I mean. There are no dents or hits, it is straight and true. The throat is fairly thick and is retained by 2 unturned screws. Portepee is post-war and looks great. Textbook example that is as good as you will find. If you are fussy this is it! NM

RC-50 Red Cross Leader

Absolutely killer blade with 100% of crossgrain intact. It is unmarked, as it should be. Blade retains its needle-like tip. There is a bit of plating loss on the obverse ricasso where this would have rubbed from pulling the blade out of the scabbard. Rates easily NM.  The brown-leather blade buffer is in place. The hilt retains 100% of it's plating with no loss, very tough to find on these leader pieces. There is some patina to the pebbled background that sets off the eagle. The grip is a pumpkin color with 2 chips. The chips are completely covered by the portepee. Now my first instinct was that the portepee was added later to cover the chips however the grip is lighter under the portepee so I believe this has always been on there. The scabbard plating again is perfect. There are no dents or hits or anything! It is straight and true. The throat is fairly thick and is retained by 2 unturned screws. The pomel nut has been turned at some point. Textbook example with a nice portepee Exc++

RC-51 Red Cross Leader

This dagger was returned to New Zealand in 1946 and I recently purchased it from the Vet's family. Never been in a collection. The blade is a polished example with 100% of crossgrain. It is unmarked, as it should be. Blade retains its needle-like tip. There is some dots of oxidation just below the ricasso, old fingerprints maybe? I believe this will clean up but this, I leave to you. I've provided the very worse views of this.  Rates easily Exc++.  The brown-leather blade buffer is in place. The hilt retains 100% of it's plating with no loss. The whole thing has a dull patina and again I know that it would brighten up if that's what you like. The grip is a perfect pumpkin colored example with no chips or cracks. The scabbard plating again is excellent I would say 99.%+. There are a couple dots of loss but that's it. There are no dents or hits. It is straight and true. The throat is fairly thick and is retained by 2 unturned screws. The pomel nut is unturned. So nice to get them from Vet families, A good unmessed with Leader. Exc++

RC-42 Personalized Red Cross EM
Interesting piece. This is the first Red Cross Hewer that I've seen personalized. The blade of this hewer is bright and shiny with all the crossgrain intact. The leather washer is in place. I rate the blade Mint-. The hilt fittings of this example are fully plated rating 99%+ with no plating loss, oh see those black dots on the top of the pommel I just scraped them off they were dirt! The medallion has fine vaulting to the swastika on the bird’s chest and the cross in its talons. The reverse medallion is Jeweler inscribed, "D.R.K. B.(m) L2" most likely a unit designation. It retains the factory matte finish. The obverse crisp checkered grip plate and the reverse smooth plate are in fine shape being crack and chip-free. All screws are intact and unturned. The scabbard shell is straight throughout with original black paint being 99% intact. The paint shows a bit of crazing and minor scratches. The fittings match the look of the hilt, the lower being retained by 2 screws. This type normally is associated with Klaas. Included is a beauty frog that is marked "2" to the reverse. A unique rig in wonderful condition. The blade of this hewer is bright and shiny with all the crossgrain intact. The leather washer is in place. I rate the blade Mint-. The hilt fittings of this example are near filly plated rating 98%+ with a couple dots of plating loss. The medallion has fine vaulting to the swastika on the bird’s chest and the cross in its talons. The background behind the eagle has a detailed pebbled finish. The obverse crisp checkered grip plate and the reverse smooth plate are in fine shape being crack and chip-free. All screws are intact. The scabbard shell is straight throughout with a repainted finish being 100% intact. The fittings match the look of the hilt, the lower being a slip fit. This type normally is associated with R D. Lüneschloss. Lastly the reverse langet and the scabbard throat are both period stamped H.7. I believe this would be the unit the wearer was associated with. Rates Exc+/Exc++
