SS Himmler Daggers

Him-12 Himmler Honour Dagger
Most likely the most desirable of all SS daggers! Blade is an Exc+ example that shows some age grey and spotting. Smooth-tail small Eickhorn maker mark is placed tight to the crossguard, as they all are. The dark motto is correct and correctly placed. Scabbard is dent free anodized finish. All nickel fittings with the screws intact. The ball maintains it's original shape. The grip is a nice chunk of hardwood that has been restored. As withy most of these early Eickhorns the grips are very hard and seem to want to flake and chip, There is a hairline crack to the reverse and some flaking around the eagle. This one has light pressure marks and evidence of wear. The runes enamel rates 100%. The eagle is correct hi-necked nickel version normally found on Himmlers. The hand chased crossguards are nickel silver and nicely fit to the grip and blade. The lower crossguard is correctly benchmarked. Scabbard fits great. All the fitting display evidence of wear. With minty examples reaching for the $20k mark this may be the affordable example you have been looking for. Overall Exc+
$9,995

SS Röhm Daggers

SS-200 Eickhorn Ground Rohm SS
An other "virgin" never been apart dagger. Blade shows minor age in the form of some light age grey. Motto and maker mark show a nice dark contrast to the blade. The motto is crisp grey and the small oval smooth-tail maker mark has been partially lost at the factory when they removed the Rohm inscription. Perfect point with no sharpening. Good crossgrain remains. Exc++. The hand chased fittings are all nickel and well fit. The handle fits up to the guards perfectly. All the angles are correct. Lower crossguard is properly marked "I". The grip is a nice heavy crack and chip-free example. The eagle is a correct nickel version and the runes have 100% of enamel. The scabbard fits the dagger perfect and all the patina matches. The dent-free scabbard has a nice anodized finish. The ball has a minor hit. All the screws are all intact. The fittings themselves are nickel silver with patina matching the crossguards. It all fits perfectly. included is beauty Assmann RZM vertical hanger that has never been removed. Overall Exc++
$4350

SS-297 Attributed Full Röhm Eickhorn SS
Here's a nice full Röhm that was recently purchased in Germany. Blade shows minor age in the form of some age dots. Motto and maker mark are nice and crisp. Perfect point with no sharpening. Good crossgrain remains. conservatively Exc+/Exc++. The fittings are all hand chased solid nickel and well fit. The handle fits up to the guards nicely. All the angles are correct. Lower crossguard is properly marked "I". The grip has small hits and two flakes to the to the top crossguard fit, (one on each side). There is a wee hairline running up from the roundel and another longer one running down from the top reverse crossguard. The eagle is a correct nickel version and the runes have 100% of enamel with a bit of age darkening. The thick throat undented Eickhorn scabbard fits the dagger perfectly and all the patina matches. The scabbard is a period repaint with evidence of wear. The ball is undamaged, the screws are all intact. The fittings themselves are nickel silver. It all fits perfectly. This small double oval Eickhorn maker mark is absolutely correct as is the motto placement. Overall Exc+/Exc++. This dagger was obtained in Germany earlier this year along with a pile of documentation. SS-Oberstumbannführer Karl Schulz NSDAP member since 1923, member of the Scutzpolizei and Einsatzleiter (control officer) in the Jewish ghetto Litzmannstaft, (Lodz), member of the SS-Polizei division.SS-Obersturmbannführer Karl Schulz was Commander of the 19. SS-Standarte Westfalen-Nord from 16 Aug 1933 to 12 June 1934. From November 1933 to March 1936 he was also a member of the National Socialist Reichstag, the Nazi German government. He was a member of the NSDAP since 1923 and in 1924 he became a member of the Schutzpolizei. In 1931 he joined the SS and he climbed the career ladder to the rank of SS-Obersturmbannführer. During the war (until 1944) he was Einsatzleiter (Control Officer) in the Jewish ghetto Litzmannstadt (Lodz) in German occupied Poland. Karl Schulz died on 2 February 1989 in Bad Berleburg, Germany. He was a member of the Marine Brigade Ehrhardt in 1920! Not sure how familiar you are with this group, but they were opposed to the Treaty of Versailles after WWI and tried to overthrow the German government in 1920 in the Kapp Putsch, long before Hitler's Beerhall Putsch in late 1923. They also fought in the streets against communists and were a predecessor organization of the SA and SS. He went on to join the Party (NSDAP) in 1923 and the SA in 1924. He joined the SS in 1931 and was released from the police force one year later in mid-1932. This guy was a trouble maker from day one! He was probably a part of a lot of the early brawling in the streets, etc. long before Hitler became their leader. He was promoted to a high rank very early on, rising to the rank of Obersturmbahnfuhrer and leader of the 19th SS Stardarte. He became a representative (Abgeordneter) of the party in the Reichstag (Parliament) which is why has calling card has 'MDR' on it for Mitglied der Reichstag. He ended up being the Einsatzleiter (head of operations) at the Litzmannstadt Getto. The Lódz Ghetto (German: Ghetto Litzmannstadt) was the second-largest ghetto after Warsaw. Situated in the town of lodz and originally intended as a temporary gathering point for Jews, the ghetto was transformed into a major industriall center, providing much needed supplies for the Germans. Because of its remarkable productivity, the ghetto managed to survive until August 1944, when the remaining population was transported to Auschwitz and Chelmno. It was the last ghetto in Poland to be liquidated. Altogether, just 10,000 of the 204,000 Jews who passed through the Lódz Ghetto survived the war. How this guy managed to escape justice and survive in Germany under a new name until his death in 1989 is really a mystery.

SS-294 Carl Eickhorn Ground Rohm SS Dagger
Here's a nice piece that really tells a story. The blade on this example is in pretty good condition. The blade shows some minor spotting wear throughout, along with the commonly seen runner marks. The motto is crisp and the small double oval smooth-tail maker mark has been partially when the factory removed the Rohm inscription. There has been no sharpening, the tip is perfect, the crossgrain is beautiful and the fit is awesome! The blade rates Exc++. The black anodized scabbard looks good with lots of factory lacquer remaining. It remains dent-free. The solid nickel fittings are worn. The lower fitting has some pressure marks and scratches, as does the ball. The top fitting has verdigris throughout where the vertical hanger has lied for the past 80 years or so. All of the screws remain intact and unturned. The scabbard/crossguard fit is excellent. The crossguards are also in excellent shape, with only minor wear. The reverse of the lower crossguard is district stamped "III" (Berlin). The bottom of the crossguard is also bench marked "1". I can tell from looking at this that the hand chased crossguards are internally marked HE, please don't take it apart I just mention this for interest sake. The crossguard/grip fit is pretty good. The black hard wood grip has some pressure marks and light scratches, as is commonly seen with these. There are also two chips to the lower sides of the grip (one to the obverse and one to the reverse). The edges of the grip are beginning to flake. The solid nickel eagle is nicely detailed and has a super fit. The roundel retains 100% of its enamel and looks good. This piece also comes with a vertical hanger that is in excellent shape. The clip works well and is stamped "D. R. G. M.". A piece with some wear but real history! Overall rates Exc+/Exc++

SS-258 Röhm Böker SS
Well one of the most difficult daggers to find and perhaps scariest daggers for collectors to buy. Reproductions abound. This particular dagger was pulled out of an Veterans attic in northern Sask. in 1978. It then moved into a sock drawer in back woods BC only to be bought by me last week. Completely textbook Böker. Blade has suffered the ravages a hot Sask. summer and frigid winters in an unheated attic. The result is some surface pitting. I know the Vet cleaned this up using some silver polish as remnants remain to the crevices of the crossguards and in the grip. I'm not the try that cleans this stuff up as I like to sell these exactly as they arrive. Regardless, as I say this one is textbook. The motto is correctly placed on the blade and reflects the specific attributes only Bökers have. To the reverse the correctly oriented maker mark is the small double oval that Böker reserved only for use on their Röhm daggers. The etching on both sides all matches in both depth and color. The blade measures exactly 222mm which is meets the textbook criteria of 220mm +/-2mm. The small oval Böker mark was only used on Rohm daggers. Perfect point and certainly Exc/Exc+. The nickel-silver hilt fittings are the correct Böker in-house cast type. If you takes this down you will find that they are internally marked "H" and exactly what one wants to see on these early quality pieces. Although the wood does show some shrinkage all the angles and radii are correct. Lower crossguard is properly marked "I". The grip is a nice heavy textbook Böker type with the oft seen chipping next to the crossguards. The eagle is a correct nickel version and the runes have 100% of enamel both inserts reflect known qualities that Böker used on early SS daggers. The scabbard fits the dagger perfect and all the patina matches nicely. The scabbard has been repainted along the way at some point, when I can not say. The ball has a good hit that has split it. All the screws are all intact. It all fits nice. All the patina matches. An extremely difficult dagger to even find. Here's one at a bargain! Overall Exc/Exc+

SS Chained Daggers

SS-5063 Early Type II Chained SS RZM 120/34 owned by an officer
Here's one right out of the wood work purchased by me from the Vet's family. It's never been in a collection or taken apart. The blade is a good example with some age grey and runner marks but no sharpening or abuse. Nice crisp motto and 120/34 maker mark. Perfect point with lots of crossgrain remaining. I would rate this blade an Exc+/Exc++. The hilt fittings are early nickel silver with an "I" Roman numeral distribution mark on the reverse. The hilt fits very nice and does have some verdigris. The pommel nut has never been turned. All the angles are correct. The wood grip is in great shape with exception to minor dents and evidence of a couple fine hairlines that you will have to go looking to find. The eagle is a nickel version and has taken a hit at some point that has dented it is some. It was a very long time ago as there is some green verdigris on there. 100% of the enamel is intact to the roundel. The portepee on the chained SS was authorized for wear by officers only. Peek under this one and you will see evidence of where the portepee has discoloured the wood ever so slightly, solid proof that this portepee has been there forever and not just something that someone added to pretty this thing up! The scabbard has a early black paint typical of the earliest SS chained scabbards. The scabbard fittings again are all solid nickel as is the chain. The ball is squashed in. The chain has great burnish to a backgrounds. There is minor wear to the chain and there is evidence that it's been twisted out of shape on some connectors in particular the two lowest ones that appear top be period replacements . We often see this on these type II chains. The details on the chain look great! The correct first upper link is SS marked. I know some guys fret about a maker marked dagger in a chained scabbard and there is no need for concern here. In the period we have evidence that these early scabbards were for sale to guys who became authorized to "upgrade" to a chained scabbard. Guys look at the fits and the matching patina on this piece, it's all been together forever. It's not perfect and I don't clean 'em up this is exactly as it came from the family. Very nice original piece. Overall Exc+/Exc++

SS-300 Early Type II Chained SS Dagger
Here's an early piece with great patina! The blade on this one is in decent shape. The crossgrain looks great and is easily noticeable all the way up the blade! The motto is beautifully executed and will surely make for a nice display. There is no maker mark and this is exactly how they were issued, and exactly how you most want them to be. The blade fits perfectly against the crossguard. The blade rates Exc+/Exc++. The blade has some age spotting throughout and the tip is slightly imperfect. The blade measures 221mm, textbook is 220 +/-2mm so it's not been redone. The scabbard looks great! It is dent-free and has great paint coverage. There is some minor spidering and spots of wear/paint loss throughout. The solid nickel fittings look great with that nice dulled green patina! All of the screws remain intact. The ball has a small pressure mark to it yet it still looks good. The chain is the early solid nickel Type II. The chain is evenly worn and the black burnish provides a beautiful dark contrast to the lighter colored fittings! The details on the chain are all there. It's really awesome you can see the details right down to the individual teeth on the skulls and the small pebbling to the background! The correct first upper link is SS marked albeit lightly. The clip looks good and works well. The scabbard/crossguard fit is excellent. The solid nickel crossguards are evenly worn and matches the patina on the fittings, which is always nice to see. The black hardwood grip is well worn with scuffs small hits and a large flack at the top obverse crossguard fit. There is also a small chip from the reverse lower left. The solid nickel eagle has a perfect fit and is beautifully detailed. The SS roundel looks good retaining 100% of its enamel. Early all nickel configuration with a Type II chain that is in beautiful condition. This textbook dagger is the most desirable configuration for an early chained SS dagger. If you're been sitting on the sidelines waiting for the right price for the right piece now is the time! Never been apart this is it! Overall rates Exc+/Exc++
$7250

SS-301 Type II Chained SS Dagger
Here's a nice piece with a great blade! The blade on this one is awesome! The crossgrain is beautiful! You can see it all the way up the blade! The motto is beautifully executed and will make for an excellent display. There is no maker mark and this is exactly how they were issued. The tip is perfect and the blade fits perfectly up against the crossguard. The blade rates Exc++. The blade also has some spotting towards the tip and some runner marks. The black anodized scabbard looks great! It is dent-free and only lightly worn. The plated nickel fittings look great with excellent coverage. All six screws remain intact. The ball is perfect. The nickel plated chain is the Type II chain. The chain is evenly worn and looks great. The details on the chain are all there. The plating to the chain is 99%. These die stamped links provided excellent detail. The correct first upper link is SS marked. The clip looks good and works well. The scabbard/crossguard fit is perfect. The plated nickel crossguards are evenly worn and look great. The black hardwood grip is honestly worn with two flakes to the reverse. The obverse has the beginning of flaking to the lower but the wood all remains intact. The aluminum eagle has a perfect fit and is beautifully detailed. The SS roundel has taken a hit and retains 95% of its original enamel. I am tempted to touch it with a dot of show polish and you will never see this but that, I leave to you. Here's a great Type II chained SS with a great blade! Overall this piece rates Exc+/Exc++
$5995

SS-281 Type II Chained SS
I love how mean looking these chains are. Honest wear on the blade with easily seen runner marks. There is some scratching along the edges of the blade back and front. There is no sharpening and the cross grain is excellently seen all the way up the blade. I have taken lots of time to show you the very worse views possible. There is no maker mark, which is exactly how these were issued. I rate this blade Exc+. The hilt fittings are all plated and very well fit. All the angles are correct. The wood grips have two large chips right out of the top on either side. The eagle is aluminum with the dark copper colored SS runes. The scabbard looks great! It is dent-free, has good plating and a great anodized finish. The ball is perfect. The chain is Type II. The chain has a couple connectors that have opened. It is well known that there type II connectors are the weakest part of these type II’s and this is commonly seen in original worn pieces. The chain retains lots of black burnish to the pebbled backgrounds making the runes and the skulls jump right out at you. The details are all there, right down to the individual teeth. The correct first upper link is SS marked. The clip has period repair replacing the clip spring. It’s well done and I’m certain a period job. Overall Exc+.
$4950

SS-283 Type II Chained SS
Here's a good honest piece. True wear on the blade consisting of some age grey from old fingerprints and evidence of cleaning that has lightened the motto somewhat. There are some scuffs, and a couple nicks while maintaining evidence of crossgrain seen all the way up the blade. There is no maker mark, which is exactly how these were issued. I rate this blade Exc+. The hilt fittings are nickel. All the angles are correct. There is honest wear on the grip. It does have a hairline crack above the runes, a very small flake near the obverse bottom right side fitting as well as minor wear and evidence of honest use. The wood grip has flaking to the reverse lower crossguard fit although it does remain intact. Despite the amount of wear, if this piece is taken care of properly the grip will remain looking good. Scabbard looks great! The scabbard is painted as the majority of the initial production type II '36 chained daggers were. The ball is perfect. The steel based chain looks great with awesome detail! Two connectors have been resoldered. In the period? Who knows, but certainly not recently done. It is well known that there type II connectors are the weakest part of these daggers and this is commonly seen in original worn pieces. The chain retains lots of black burnish to the pebbled backgrounds making the runes and the skulls jump right out at you. The correct first upper link is SS proof stamped and is lighter than the Type I, which is exactly how they were. Overall the piece looks great and rates Exc++

SS Daggers

SS-113 Serialized Fürth Sport School SS by Herder
This one Shea pulled out of the woodwork several years ago and sold to a dear friend of mine, it's now back to me on trade. Rather than re-write the entire description I'll let Bill do the talking:
"E-448- This RARE dagger is right out of the woodwork! The crossguards have a greenish tint with nice smooth surfaces and precise accent grooves. The crossguards are internally marked “P.A.” (Vol. IV, page 34). The lower guard is Group-marked “I”. In addition, on the bottom of the crossguard is a six digit number “67840”. A preliminary investigation has thus far indicated that the owner was not an officer; however, a more thorough search needs to be completed. The grip has the slim appearance with high contour ridge typical of this maker. Is shows minor wear and some chips along the upper grip edge near the crossguard. The grip eagle is the “point-behind-the-head version (Vol. IV, page 51, lower) and shows minor wear. The SS runes button is beautiful and is at the 7:00 o’clock position. The blade is bright and shows normal runner marks rating a “strong excellent”. The SS motto is deeply etched, having 100% burnishing. There is one area near the crossguard that has been ground/polished, probably as a result of the school engraving on the reverse side. The reverse ricasso is matching etched with the Herder trademark, a double set of oval circles containing the firm’s name and location in between. The diamond logo appears inside the circles. In addition, the reverse blade is beautifully etched with a “Furth” etching “SS – Sportschule Furth II 5. Lehrgang 8.11. – 20. 12. 34” with very dark burnishing. Magnificent! The candidates that were sent to this school brought along all their gear including their dress dagger. Prior graduating, the leaders at the Furth school collected all the dagger side arms and had the local engraver personalize each piece with the details related to this special experience. These were presented back to the graduates, no doubt, at some grandiose graduation ceremony. The scabbard shell is straight throughout and has 99% anodizing remaining. The reverse side shows some minor wear. The scabbard fittings match the patina of the crossguards and show minor wear. The scabbard fittings match the patina of the crossguards and show minor wear. The scabbard ball has one major hit. The four matching screws are present and unturned. The scabbard throat is etched with the matching six digit number “67840”. A very RARE dagger that is a must for any serious SS collector! A nice research project!" Exc++
Note 4/25- I was contacted by Author Robert Newbrough for pictures of this dagger to be included in a new reference coming out in 2012, "Sport and the 3rd Reich" So this is a dagger to be pictured in a reference book!

SS-292 Early Serialized Bertram Reinh & Sohn SS
Here's an example out of an old collection. Blade shows some minor age and evidence of where the runners have rested for the past 70 years. It's been cleaned and someone worked hard cleaning the runner marks from the reverse, I can feel with my nail were the runner area was cleaned.and it's a wee but pitted there. Motto and maker mark are crisp and dark. Perfect point with no sharpening. Exc+. The fittings are solid nickel and well fit. The handle fits up to the guards perfectly. All the angles are correct. Lower crossguard is serialized 184106 partially obscuring the district stamp "1". To my knowledge the guy is untraceable at this point. The grip has some hairlines but no chips. The eagle is a correct nickel version and the runes have 100% of enamel. The scabbard fits the dagger perfectly and all the patina matches. The scabbard is a period repaint. The ball retais it's original shape but has a small flat to the bottom. The screws are all intact. The fittings themselves are nickel silver. It all fits well. Finally if you look at the back of the grip you can see marks where this was worn with a vertical hanger. Oh, I do so love these small details. Overall Exc+

SS-289 Vet purchased Robert Klass SS Dagger
Sweet piece here, never been in a collection!! The blade is awesome!! There is some odd spotting and commonly seen runner marks, but the crossgrain is very nice, the tip is perfect, there has been no sharpening, and the fit is supper! Take a second and look at this deep dark motto and maker mark. BEAUTIFUL, just what you want to see on these! The blade rates Exc++. The period repainted scabbard suffers some chipping to the paint but remains dent-free. The solid nickel fittings are in great condition with matching patina to the crossguards. The ball has been bumped in. All of the screws remain intact. Wow the scabbard/crossguard fit is perfect! Look at the matching patina. The crossguards are very nice and have some green verdigris age to the edges. The lower reverse crossguard is district marked "I" (Munich). The crossguard/grip fits are super! The black wood grip has a bit of age toning, the odd pressure mark but remains chip and crack-free. The nickel eagle is perfectly fit with no chipping or movement to its edges, and aren't these ever nicely detailed! The SS roundel retains all of its enamel and again is perfectly fit! To top this piece off, it comes with a three piece hanger that is in good condition! The strap at the top is funky and as so often we see these guys just used what was around. Not sure where the grip strap came from but I leave this stuff how it comes in, I don't "fix it" to make it someone's idea of textbook. The clip works fine and reads "DRGM". Always nice to see a very nice dark motto and maker mark along with all the super fits! This piece is very nice and needs a good home. Overall Exc++
