Imperial 2nd Class Friedrich-August Cross

A German Imperial 2nd Class Friedrich-August Cross on a parade mount for the military division. The award was set up on September 24th 1914 by Frederick Augustus II, Grand Duke of Oldenburg who has shown outstanding service during the war. It is constructed out of a die struck, iron base that has been blackened. The obverse features a pattee style cross with a centrally placed "FA" (Friedrich-August), above "1914" to the bottom and the kings crown to the top, with a laurel leaf wreath to the corners. The reverse shows the same a pattee style cross with a laurel leaf wreath to the corners. To the top is a parade mounted blue and red military division ribbon. The steel plate is lost to time. It measures 1 9/16 inches wide and tall. The award is in excellent condition and retains nice blackening.
