French Combatants Cross

Here we have a French Combatants Cross Medal. It was awarded for the recognition of those who fought in combat for France. It is made of a die struck, tombak base and has been bronze washed. The obverse displays a patee style cross with a centrally placed Republic effigy surrounded by ?Republic Francais? and a laurel leaf wreath. The reverse displays that same patee style cross with a centrally placed downward pointing broad sword in front of a sunburst pattern and above ?Croix. Du Combattant" (Combatants Cross) on a smooth field and is surrounded by a laurel leaf wreath. To the reverse of the lower arm it is stamped ?BR?. It has 4 inches of original ribbon. A nice French award!
