Wow this one’s a real beauty! Here we have a cased example of a tombak based, die struck, silver washed War Merit Cross 1st Class by Klein & Quenzer. The obverse depicts a pebbled Maltese style cross with two crossed broad swords and a wreathed swastika to the center. The reverse shows a full back, a soldered block hinge, flat wire soldered catch and coke bottle pin that is marked "62" (Kerbach & Oesterhelt, Dresden). They are all in well working condition! The frosting on the badge is just excellent. The case is made of wood and pressed cardboard with a simulated grained leather covering. It has a beautiful silver portrait of a 1st Class KVK to the top. The hinge and closure button are both tombak and function well. The interior of the top lid of the case is lined in white satin and has an underlying pad. The bottom interior of the case is made of a black felt material. A beautiful piece!
