A very interesting example produced by Anton Wingen Jr! The blade on this one looks excellent! The dark and crisp, acid etched “AW Jr. Solingen” maker mark is beautifully executed. The crossgrain is stunning and easily visible as you shine it in the light. It ends at a perfect tip and holds a solid fit! The blade rates an Exc++/NM. It shows very minor spotting throughout. The buffer pad continues to remain intact. The nicely patinaed scabbard looks excellent! It remains completely dent free and provides beautiful details throughout! To its symmetrical body you will find random pebbling, along with an oak leaves and acorn pattern towards the tip. It also has two separately applied scabbard bands, with a matching oak leaf motif. The single throat retaining screw remains intact. The patinaed aluminum crossguard also depicts great detail showing; an outstretched Luftwaffe eagle clutching a swastika within its talons, along with the top side embossed oak leaf and acorn motif! The pommel and ferrule are also beautifully detailed with proud oak leaves and acorns. The pommel retains its copper flash coating, giving the swastika a beautiful and distinctive appearance! This grip is painted wood which we do see used from time to time as producers sought more readily available materials as the oil required to produce trylon became scarce. There is some surface chipping to the paint as we do see on most of these. It has a double twisted wire wrap that remains tightly intact! To top this piece off it comes with the correct portepee that is in great condition. A fine example all around!
