Rare to find this on a parade mount! The medal was struck at the Hauptmünze in Munich in 1918 to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the wedding of the King and Queen was intended to be awarded to the King's Regiments at Christmas that year. In the event, the end of World War I and the November Revolution prevented this. The medal was subsequently awarded unofficially between 1921 and 1935 by the Bavarian Royal Household (medal-medaille). The award is constructed out of a die struck iron base that has been blackened. The obverse features the busts of King Ludwig III in front of his wife Queen Maria Theresia, which are above "Weihnachten 1918" (Christmas 1918) and surrounded by laurel leaves. The reverse reads: "Aur Erinnerung An Die Goldene Hochzeit 20. Febr. 1918" (In Commemoration of the Golden Wedding February 20th 1918) and is above two crowned escutcheons (the coat of arms of Bavaria and Austria-Este), which are above rose branches. The bottom is also maker marked "A.B." (Alois Boersch). To the top is a soldered loop and suspension ring which hold the correct red and green rayon parade mounted ribbon. The reverse pin is in well working condition! Find another one of these on a parade mount!
