A solid 2nd Variation "8-Wave Type" example by Rudolf Karneth & Sohn! It is made of a die struck, tombak base that has been gold gilded, silver washed and blackened. To the obverse depicts an exploded mine coming out of the water, this is below a Kriegsmarine eagle (with out-stretched wings, clutching a swastika within its talons), which is surrounded by an oak leaf and acorn wreath that is tied together on the bottom. The reverse of the badge shows the correct tombak; stamped block hinge, soldered round wire catch and coke bottle pin. The back is also correctly maker marked "RK" (Rudolf Karneth & Sohn, Gablonz) .The unique eagle head and details throughout are excellent! Nice age wear throughout! See Vol. 1 page 380 of Weber & Skora's "The Kriegsmarine Awards" book. A nice maker marked example!
