The early blade on this piece looks good, as with most Imperial era pieces the blade is slightly wider and thicker than similar 3rd Reich examples. The etch on this is quite nice with an infantry motif. There is no oxidation or age, just some scuffs toward the tip. The tip and fit are both perfect. Most of the red felt buffer remains intact. The black painted scabbard has scuffs and a bit of paint loss towards the tip and well as two dents to the lower obverse. The scabbards throat is tightly secured by the two dome head screws and finally the suspension ring is fixed as usually seen on this era of sword. The nickel plated hilt shows some wear but no oxidation. The triple wire wrapped sharkskin grip remains in excellent condition with a couple marks but 99% intact. The triple brass wire wrap continues to be tightly intact and in place, looking very nice. The tang is correctly peened over at the top of the hilt Included is an Imperial era Bavarian portepee.
