2nd Class War Merit Cross

Here we have an early 2nd Class War Merit Cross, which was given to civilians who performed meritorious service behind the lines! It is constructed out of a die struck, tombak base that has been bronze washed. It depicts a pebbled Maltese style cross with a wreathed swastika / "1939" (reverse) to the center. To the top is a soldered on loop and (unmarked) ring. Accompanying this piece is approximately 9 1/2 inches of original black, white and red rayon ribbon. It shows period age wear/spotting throughout. An excellent piece!
