German WWII > Belt Buckles > Luftwaffe >
A nice early tabbed and maker marked piece here! The rectangular buckle is constructed out of a die struck aluminum base that has been silver washed and black burnished. The obverse roundel features a centrally placed 1st pattern Luftwaffe droop-tail open winged eagle clutching a swastika in one of its talons, on an oval pebbled background, that is all encircled by a laurel leaf and berry wreath that is tied together at the bottom. The roundel lies on a pebbled rectangular background. The aluminum prongs and integral catch remain in excellent condition. It is maker marked "R.S.&S." (Richard Sieper & Sohne, Lüdenscheid). Attached to the prongs is a dark brown leather tab which has been folded over and stitched in place. The tab is maker marked and dated: "Richard Sieper & Sohne Lüdenscheid 1936" matching the buckle. The tab is heavily marked it reads: "Hsk. Wu.", "Max Stelzer Berlin 1536" and is also acceptance marked: "L.B.A." (Luftwaffen Beckleidungsamt | Luftwaffe Clothing Depot) along with some others that I can't quite make out. It measures approximately 2 1/2 inch wide by 2 inches high. Some great features to this one. An excellent piece worthy of serious consideration!
