Here we have a Radio Operator/Air Gunner Badge by BSW! It is a two-piece construction made out of die struck tombak with a blackened eagle and silver wreath. The obverse the badge depicts an open-winged Luftwaffe eagle clutching four lightning bolts in its talons. The eagle is in front of a half laurel leaf half oak leaf wreath and has a mobile swastika to the very bottom. The reverse of the badge correctly displays; the “BSW” (Bruder Schneider A.G. - Wien) maker mark behind the eagle. The reverse also correctly shows; the soldered barrel hinge, large soldered round wire question mark shaped catch and two rivets. The pin has some soldering towards the hinge where it has likely been replaced. The badge depicts beautiful details, patina and highlights throughout the eagle’s wings head and wreath! It measures approximately 2 1/8 inches tall by 1 ¾ inches wide. See pg. 232 of Previtera’s “Combat Badges of the Third Reich” reference book.
