Netherlands - Imperial era Navy Sword

Please note this item is no longer available and you were redirected to our Archives.

Rarely seen Dutch navy sword. I would date this one approx 1870's This one has a hefty plain 31" blade, with a etch panel that says "yzerhouwer". The whole blade has lots of age and pitting throughout. There has been no sharpening and I'll rate it VG. The blade itself is unmarked however based on the design and construction I suspect this a Solingen made WKC export sword. The bone grip is in good condition with the original triple brass wire wrap (a few strands are a bit loose, this is common on these). There is some minor wear to the grip but no chips or cracks. The bone seems to have shifted south as there is a space between the upper fit and the bass hilt. You can clearly see this in the pics. The entire hilt is brass based and hand chased with great care. The tang has been expertly hidden with hand work disguising it into the lion's mane. Sorry no scabbard here.
