1st Class War Merit Cross without Swords by 3

Here we have a 1st Class War Merit Cross without Swords by Wilhelm Deumer of Lüdenscheid! It was awarded for meritorious service behind the lines. It is constructed out of a die struck zinc-alloy base that has been silver washed. The obverse depicts a pebbled Maltese style cross with a wreathed swastika to the center. The full back reverse is correctly marked “3” (Wilhelm Deumer, Lüdenscheid). It also shows a nickel-silver soldered on rectangular plate block hinge, soldered on round plate flat wire catch and straight pin. The silver wash remains to the pin, hinge and catch assembly. It measures approximately 1 15/16 inches wide and tall. A nice piece!
