Cased Imperial 2nd Class Iron Cross

Please note this item is no longer available and you were redirected to our Archives.

Nice original untouched example! This award is a die struck, three piece (single piece iron core and two piece alloy construction) construction. The obverse features a pattee style cross with a centrally placed “W”, below a kings crown and above “1914” all in black with a ribbed and flat boarder. The reverse shows a centrally placed oak leaf design, kings crown, “FW” and “1813”. The black paint is well worn. The border has beautifully toned with age leaving a nice and dark patina! The ring is unmarked. The award comes with 6” of the correct white and black rayon ribbon. Now the slightly vaulted case looks good It is made of a type of brown finished pressed cardboard case with a 1914 EKII on the front and “Dank des Vaterlandes” in silver and black to the top. The top is attached to the bottom with silk fabric and does not close perfectly as there is no button to the front so it’s a bit loose. There is some wear as shown, but keep in mind this thing is 100 years old!! The interior is flocked with beige to the bottom with an impressed EKII shape to accept the medal. There is a wire to secure the ribbon and a wee tab to allow you to tuck the ribbon underneath for a clean display. Nice example.
