Here we have the 1864 version of the Prussian 2nd Class Military Honor Medal! It was awarded to military personnel for bravery acts from the rank of NCO and soldiers. It is constructed out of a die stamped silver base that has been silver washed. The round shaped obverse features an intertwined and ornate “WR”, which is the crowned cypher of King Frederick William II. The reverse reads: “Kriegs Verdienst” (Military Merit) surrounded by a laurel leaf and berry wreath that is tied together at the bottom. To the top is a soldered on loop and ring which holds approximately 3 inches of folded and stitched black and white rayon ribbon. It measures approximately 1 9/16 inches in diameter. A great looking piece!
