Here we have an early 2nd Class War Merit Cross, which was given to civilians who performed meritorious service behind the lines. It is constructed out of a die struck bronze base that has been bronze washed. It depicts a pebbled Maltese style cross with a wreathed swastika / “1939” (reverse) to the center. To the top is a soldered on loop and unmarked ring which holds approximately 6 inches of original black, white and orange rayon ribbon. It award measures approximately 1 7/8 inches wide and tall. It retains a nice bronze finish to it! An excellent piece!
