Here we have a 3rd Class 8 Year Police Long Service Award! This was awarded to active members of the German Police who gave 8 years of service surrounding the Third Reich era. It is constructed out of a die struck nickel silver base that has been silver washed. The round shaped obverse features a centrally placed police emblem which consists of a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika in its talons above an oval oak leaf wreath. The reverse depicts a centrally placed "8" surrounded by: "Für Treue Dienst in der Polizei" (For Loyal Service in the Police). To the top is a soldered on loop and ring which holds approximately 4 inches of folded blue rayon ribbon that has a stitched on gilded brass pin, hinge and catch assembly. The detail and silver wash looks great! It measures approximately 1 ½ inches in diameter. This piece comes housed in its original issue case. The case is constructed out of pressed cardboard with a simulated olive green, pebbled, leather covering and red felt inlay to the interior. There is an impressed silver "8" surrounded by a cogwheel design, to the top. The case has minor scuffs throughout. The edges were ripped when I got it and I repaired them. You would never know though I try my best to fully disclose everything I know I sell it! The case measures approximately 1 7/8 inches wide by 4 inches long by a ½ inch thick. A great piece for a great collector!
