Here we have a two piece medal bar consisting of a rare Life Saving Medal (Rettungsmedaille) and the Honor Cross of the World War 1914/1918 with Swords (Das Ehrenkreuz des Weltkriegs 1914/1918). The German Life Saving Medal was reinstituted by Reich President von Hindenburg in June 22, 1933. It was awarded for a rescue act while using his/her own life, not in the course of their normal duties (e.g. Fireman, Nurse etc.). These two awards are attaches to a plated steel medal bar and are in front of their appropriate rayon ribbon. The reverse shows a green felt covering and a well working tombak pin, hinge and catch assembly. It measures approximately 2 5/8 inches wide by 2 inches tall. A beautiful and rare piece!
