1st Pattern E-Boat Badge by Schwerin

Please note this item is no longer available and you were redirected to our Archives.

These early first models are highly desired among the collection community! The Fast Attack Craft War Badge (Das Schnellbootkriegsabzeichen) was awarded to worthy individuals who had served in twelve combat engagements on fast attack craft or torpedo boats, other special circumstances may grant the award as well. The badge is constructed out of a die-struck tombak base that has been blackened, silver washed and gold gilded. The obverse depicts an S-boat (S-30 type) breaking through the sea below a kriegsmarine eagle (with out-stretched wings, clutching a swastika within its talons), which is then all encompassed by a laurel leaf and acorn wreath that is tied together at the bottom. The reverse of the badge is slightly concave and is fully blackened, with some gold gilding overlay to the edges. It is correctly marked: “Schwerin Berlin 68”. It has the correct horizontally placed tombak; soldered on block hinge, soldered on flatwire catch and coke bottle pin, along with the soldered on vertically placed round wire top hook. The details throughout the ship, waves and eagle are superb! The color contrasts are wonderful! Schwerin was the only maker to product a tombak version! It has the correct die flaws. See “The Kriegsmarine Awards” Vol II pg. 600. It measures approximately 2 ¼ inches tall by 1 ¾ inches wide. A rare and desirable piece you won’t want to let go!
