A nice looking “Ball Hinge” Flak-Kampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe! The Luftwaffe Flak Badge was awarded to those who had participated in 3 air defense actions (with a registered kill) or 5 air defense actions (regardless of a kill) or to the battery commander if half of their troops had been awarded the badge. It is constructed out of a two-piece die struck zinc base that has been silver washed. The obverse depicts an anti-aircraft gun that is surrounded by a laurel leaf wreath and is below/behind a Luftwaffe eagle, clutching a swastika in one of its talons. The semi-hollow reverse of the badge displays; a crimped tombak flatwire catch, crimped ball hinge and round wire pin. All of the components are in well working condition! It shows the progressive die flaws indicating it is late war. It measures approximately 2 ½ inches tall by 1 7/8 inches wide. See pages 238-241 of Marc Garlasco’s “The Flak Badge”. A great piece!
