An early desirable Silber Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen by Otto Schickle! Interesting to note, these Schickle pieces were attributed to B.H. Mayer as some are found marked L/18 on the pin. Schickle lost their license in 1941 and their left over stock was sent to Pforzheim makers, like B.H. Mayer. The Silver Infantry Assault Badge was awarded to foot infantrymen who had taken part in combat action on different days and met the required award criteria. It is constructed out of a die stamped buntmetall base that has been silver washed. The oval shaped obverse depicts a rifle and bayonet below a Heer closed winged eagle clutching a mobile swastika within its talons. This is all surrounded by an acorn and oak leaf wreath that is tied together at the bottom. The hollow back reverse correctly displays a soldered on buntmetall round wire catch (that has a flattened base typically found on early PAB's), soldered on buntmetall sheet metal hinge and sturdy round wire buntmetall pin. They all remain in well working condition. The details continue to display wonderfully! It measures approximately 2 1/2 inches tall by 1 13/16 inches wide.
