A nice matching one! The K98 Bayonet was designed for the German Wehrmacht standard service Karabiner 98 kurz (7.92×57mm Mauser cartridge) bolt-action rifle (1935). The single edged, single fullered, blued blade on this one look great! The blued panels continue to have a nice and dark finish. The tip and fit are both perfect. It is beautifully maker marked with the stamped “Gebr. Heller” to the reverse, “37” (1937) to the spine and “4404 d” (serial/distribution number) to the obverse. The stamps match the scabbard as well! The blade rates a solid Exc++. It shows age spotting and bluing loss along with the commonly seen marks from the runners. The steel based, black anodized scabbard looks good. The finish is mostly gone with oxidization spotting throughout. The single side screw is lost to time. It remains completely dent free! The scabbard top is marked “4404 d” to the obverse and “Gebr. Heller 1937” to the reverse, matching the blade. The scabbard sits securely up against the hilt. The hilt looks great! The brown/black bakelite grip plates are in great condition! They show the common pressure marks and on wee chip but no cracks or splits! The button continues to work well. This piece is profusely inspection stamped as one would expect. It also comes with a black leather frog. The top strap is broken. It is marked to the back “kvz 1942”. A solid piece!
