Tabbed Army Belt Buckle by R. S. & S 1940

Please note this item is no longer available and you were redirected to our Archives.

A tabbed one! It is constructed of a single piece of die struck aluminum-alloy base that has been burnished (exterior) and green painted (interior). The obverse roundel depicts a closed winged Heer eagle griping a mobile swastika in its talons on a smooth round background. The eagle is above a half oak leaf and acorn wreath that is tied together at the bottom and is underneath the Heer motto reading: “Gott Mit Uns” (God with us). The wreath and motto are both in front of a decorative lined type pattern which is encircled by two twisted ropes. The roundel lies on a pebbled rectangular backing. The reverse is clearly maker marked “R. S. & S.” (Richard Sieper & Sohne, Lüdenscheid). The prongs are lost to time and the integral catch remains intact. Attached to the prong hinge is a dark brown leather tab which has been folded over and stitched in place. The tab is maker marked and dated though almost illegible. The leather is stiff and crazed. The buckle measures approximately 2 1/2 inch wide by 1 7/8 inches high.
