Here we have a beautiful and complete, matching example with the original issue paper, packet and ribbon! The 2nd Class War Merit Cross, which was given to civilians who performed meritorious service behind the lines. The medal is constructed out of a die struck tombak base that has been bronze washed. It depicts a pebbled Maltese style cross and a wreathed swastika / “1939” (reverse) to the center. The ring is marked “1” (Deschler & Sohn, Munchen). The award measures approximately 1 7/8 inches wide and tall. This piece comes with approximately 9 1/2 inches of original black, white and red rayon ribbon. It also comes with the matching “Deschler & Sohn Munchen 9” (reverse) packet that reads “Kriegs-verdienstkreuz 2. Klasse ohne Schwerter” (obverse). It measures 4 inches tall by 2 3/8 inches wide.
