Here we have a Kriegsabzeichen für Minensuch by Wilhelm Deumer of Lüdenscheid! The Minesweeper War Badge was awarded for participation in three engagements, special distinction during tours, an outstanding single deed or/and participation in a special operation. Other special conditions more suitably deemed by the commanding officer could grant the award as well. It is constructed out of a die struck zinc base that has been gold gilded, silver washed and blackened. The oval shaped obverse depicts a centrally placed explosion coming out of the water that is below a Kriegsmarine eagle (with out-stretched wings, clutching a mobile swastika in its talons) and is surrounded by an oak leaf and acorn wreath that is tied together on the bottom. The full back reverse of the badge shows a; soldered on tombak rectangular plate block hinge, soldered on tombak round plate c-shaped catch, soldered on round plate round wire top S-shaped hook and a tombak horizontal coke bottle pin. All remain in well working condition. The silvering remains in wonderful condition. Nice detail throughout. It measures approximately 2 3/16 inches high by 1 ¾ inches wide. See Vol. 1 page 364 of Weber & Skora's "The Kriegsmarine Awards" book. A fine piece!
