A 7 on the McSaar rarity scale! The blade looks good. Traces of crossgrain still remains visible, the fit is nice and tight and the tip comes to a perfect point. The acid etched "Alles fur Deutschland" motto and "SMF Solingen" maker mark are both nicely executed! The blade rates Exc+/Exc++. It has minor age grey. The steel based, brown anodized scabbard shows period wear to the finish that is down to the base metal. I say that and there is no oxidation. It remains completely dent free! The solid nickel scabbard fittings show similar wear. The lower fitting and ball have some bumps and bruises. All four scabbard screws remain intact. The scabbard / crossguard fit is perfect and it closes with a snap! The solid nickel crossguards are in excellent condition and match the scabbard fittings in color and wear. The reverse of the lower crossguard is Gruppe stamped "Wf". The grip / crossguard fits are perfect! The red hardwood grip has a nice red finish and looks awesome! No chips, cracks or splits! There are some scratches and other evidence of normal period wear. The solid nickel eagle is perfect, retains beautiful details and has a perfect fit. The SA roundel also has a perfect fit and retains 100% of its enamel. Overall this piece is looks great and will look great in your collection!
