Here we have a gorgeous early Kriegs-verdienstkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwertern by Franz Lipp of Pforzheim! The 2nd Class War Merit Cross with Swords was awarded to soldiers for exceptional service in battle above and beyond the call of duty. It is constructed out of a die struck tombak base that has been bronze washed and lacquered. It depicts a pebbled Maltese style cross and a wreathed swastika / “1939” (reverse) to the center. To the top is a soldered on loop and “72” (Franz Lipp, Pforzheim) maker marked ring. Attached to the ring is 9 1/4 inches of black, white and red rayon ribbon. The Bronze was is impeccable! The award measures approximately 1 7/8 inches wide and tall. A superb piece!
