Here we have an Early Model 1933 Hitlerjugend Fahrtenmesser by Carl Heidelberg of Solingen. The thin blade on this one looks great. The acid etched “Blut und Ehre!” motto and “Carl Heidelberg Solingen” / “Ges. Geschützt.” maker marks are all nicely executed! The fit continues to remain nice and tight and the tip comes to a perfect point. The blade rates a sloid Exc++. It shows surface scratches, age spotting and age grey throughout. The buffer pad is a replacement. The steel based black enamel painted scabbard looks great. It is quite unique using two types of leather the regular type cow hide to the vertical portion and the ‘pig skin’ to the horizontal one. Unusual and quite fine. 95%+ of its original paint coverage remains intact. It remains completely dent free. The obverse scabbard rivet was missing and I replaced it with a post-war one. The scabbard leather is in wonderful condition. It has all of its rivets intact and the snap continues to work well! The steel based nickel-silver plated hilt retains 80%+ of its plating. The black bakelite checkered grip plates are in near excellent condition. Both solid nickel silver rivets tightly secure the plates to the hilt. The small HJ diamond retains 99%+ of its enamel. A great looking early one!
