Here we have the earliest style of Hitlerjugend Fahrtenmessers of the Third Reich period! Anton Wingen along with Carl Eickhorn and Ernst Pack were among the preliminary manufacturers of the HJ knife. The whole piece is oxidized and in rough condition. The stamped “A.W.Jr. Solingen” maker mark looks good! The blade rates VG/Exc. It has been sharpened and shows heavy pitting throughout. The steel based black painted scabbard is oxidized. It remains completely dent free! The hanger is missing its horizontal portion, many of these have this as it would cover the HJ emblem. It could have been torn off in the period or afterwards. There is a steel wire going through the rivet hole. The hilt is steel based and nickel-silver plated. It has the eagle head pommel and the faux push button. The black bakelite checkered grip plates show a large crack to the reverse where the spanner nut had been tightened too tightly. The majority of the spanner nuts cracked the grips. The HJ diamond retains 55%+ of its enamel. One that’s been there!
