An excellent Kreigsmarine Minesweeper Badge by Assmann! It is constructed out of a die struck tombak base that has been gold gilded, silver washed and blackened. The obverse depicts an explosion coming out of the water, this is below a Kriegsmarine eagle (with out-stretched wings, clutching a swastika within its talons), which is surrounded by an oak leaf and acorn wreath that is tied together on the bottom. The reverse of the badge shows the correct "A" mark. It also shows the tombak; soldered on block hinge, soldered flat-wire catch and replacement round wire pin. The eagle's wings are slightly vaulted, likely done but the awardee. The silvering, blackening and gold gilding are beautiful and the details throughout are excellent! It measures approximately 2 3/16 inches high by 1 ¾ inches wide.
