An early 1st Pattern screwback Spange zum Eisernen Kreuz by Unknown Maker II, attributed to Boerger & Co. of Berlin. The 1st Class Spange to the Iron Cross (Repetition Clasp) was awarded to those who has already received the Imperial 1st Class Iron Cross and earned the 1st Class Iron Cross again in WWII. It is constructed out of a die-struck tombak base that has been silver washed. The obverse features a National open winged eagle clutching a wreathed swastika within its talons, above a scalloped trapezoid bannered "1939". The full back reverse features a centrally soldered on male screw back piece which holds a round washer plate and a smaller female screwback device. All components are non-magnetic. The threads are slightly off. It measures approximately 1 ¾ inches wide by 1 ¼ inches tall. Gorgeous detail and silver wash!
