A 1st Pattern Spange zum Eisernen Kreuz 1. Klasse 1939 by Paul Meybauer of Berlin. This was awarded to those who has already received the imperial 1st class Iron Cross and earned the 1st class Iron Cross again in WWII. It is constructed out of a die-struck tombak base that has been silver washed. The obverse features a National open winged eagle clutching a wreathed swastika within its talons, above a scalloped trapezoid bannered "1939". The reverse shows a solid full back. This piece has the correct; soldered on sheet metal hinge, soldered on round plate round wire catch and pin. All components are non-magnetic. Gorgeous detail and wonderful patina! It measures approximately 1 ¾ inches wide by 1 ¼ inches tall. See pages 466-469 of "The Iron Cross 1. Class" by D. Maerz and G. Stimson. The wear pattern shows that this may be the exact one found on pages 468 and 469.
