Here we have an early 1st Pattern Spange zum Eisernen Kreuz 1. Klasse (Wiederholungsspange) - Lapel Stikpin. IMO this was manufactured by Borger & Co. of Berlin. There were only three manufacturers of the 1st pattern Spange and looking at the shape of its head, Borger & Co. is obvious. This piece would have been privately purchased and worn by the awardee while in civilian clothing. It is constructed out of a die-struck tombak base that has been silver washed and lacquered. The obverse features a National open winged eagle clutching a wreathed swastika within its talons, above a scalloped trapezoid bannered "1939". The full back reverse has a soldered on and knurled silvered tombak stickpin. The face measures approximately 11/16 of an inch wide by 1/2 of an inch tall. A nice piece!
