Here we have a rare cased matching privately purchased Spange zum Eisernen Kreuz 1. Klasse (Wiederholungsspangen) 1939 by L/54 (Schauerte & Hohfeld of Lüdenscheid). The 1st Class Spange to the Iron Cross (Repetition Clasp) 1939 was awarded to those who has already received the Imperial 1st Class Iron Cross and earned the 1st Class Iron Cross again in WWII. It is constructed out of a die struck tombak base that has been silver washed. The obverse of the badge depicts a German national eagle, with out-stretched wings clutching a wreathed swastika within its talons and is above a trapezoid shaped pebbled bannered that reads “1939”. The full back reverse displays a soldered on block hinge, soldered on catch and round wire pin. All of the components are non-magnetic and continue to work well. This is an ideal piece for the advanced collector who enjoys the variations. This piece has gorgeous detail and the silver wash is impeccable! It measures approximately 1 ¾ inches wide by 1 ¼ inches tall. The case shows minor wear and stain. It is ink stamped L/54. You will never find this combination again in your life. One you won’t regret having!
