Here we have a privately purchased Spange zum Eisernen Kreuz 1. Klasse (Wiederholungsspangen) 1939 by L/13 - Paul Meybauer of Berlin. The 1st Class Spange to the Iron Cross (Repetition Clasp) 1939 was awarded to those who has already received the Imperial 1st Class Iron Cross and earned the 1st Class Iron Cross again in WWII. It is constructed out of a die struck nickel-silver base that has been silver washed. The obverse of the badge depicts a German national eagle, with out-stretched wings clutching a wreathed swastika within its talons and is above a trapezoid shaped pebbled bannered that reads “1939”. The full back reverse is maker marked: “L/13” and displays a soldered on block hinge, soldered on flat wire catch and pin. All of the components are non-magnetic and continue to work well. This hardware set-up is not ”textbook’ it is associated with the 1957 version and has been replaced. This piece has gorgeous detail and the silver wash is very nice! It measures approximately 1 ¾ inches wide by 1 ¼ inches tall. A rare inexpensive piece!
