Privately Purchased, a Spange zum Eisernen Kreuz 1. Klasse 1939 by L/11 (Wilhelm Deumer, Lüdenscheid). This example is a die-struck, tombac based, silver washed construction. The obverse features a Heer open winged eagle clutching a wreathed swastika within its talons, above a bannered “1939”. The reverse shows a solid back. This piece has the correct; block hinge, soldered catch and needle pin. All components are non-magnetic. It has the correct: height, width and weight! It has nice silver wash still intact. It depicts wonderful details throughout with that distinctive Deumer head to that bird! This is a marked example. See page 481 of Dietrich’s "The Iron Cross 1st Class". The award comes housed in its appropriate LDO marked case. It is constructed out of wood and pressed cardboard, with a grained simulated black leather covering. To the front is a square spring loaded, steel closure button. To the back is a magnetic, staggered, internal bar hinge. The hinge and the closure button continue to function well. The interior top lid is lined in pearl satin with a gold LDO logo and has an underlying pad. The bottom interior of the case is made of a removable cardboard covered in black flocking and outlines the pin, hinge and catch assembly. A nice textbook, tombac example to add to your collection!
