A must have for variant/SMF collectors! Here we have an Early Model 1933 Hitlerjugend Fahrtenmesser by SMF (Solinger Metallwarenfabrik Stoecker & Co.) of Solingen with the marked scabbard! This is very rare and I’ve only ever owned two other examples! The blade on this one looks great. The dark crisp acid etched “Blut und Ehre!” motto and “SMF Solingen Ges. Geschützt” maker mark are both beautifully executed! The fit is nice and tight and the tip comes to a perfect point. The blade rates an Exc+/Exc++. It has been ever so slightly-so-slightly sharpened, shows the common surface scratches and age grey/spotting throughout. The leather buffer pad is lost to time. The scabbard is steel based and black enamel painted. The paint has been striped the paint off. It is a rare variant as the top is maker marked “SMF Solingen”. Very neat! It remains completely dent free. There is a slight 1/8 of an inch cut to the one side of the scabbard throat. The brown/blackened scabbard leather is crazed yet remains in fine shape. There is a small 1/8 of an inch tear to the male snap portion side. It has all of its rivets intact and the button continues to work well! The steel based nickel-silver plated hilt is in great condition, with 80% of its plating still intact. The black bakelite checkered grip plates are in excellent condition and are tightly secured with two solid nickel-silver rivets! The small early HJ diamond retains 90% of its enamel. A unique early variant fit for the right collection!
