Here we have an Army Officers Leopard Head Sword, Pattern Nr. 1693 by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen (Wehrmacht Heer Säbel für Offiziere). The steel forged single edged, single fullered 35 inch long blade on this one looks good. The stamped “Original Eickhorn Solingen” maker mark is beautifully executed. The plating gives it a nice mirror like finish. The tip comes to a perfect point and the fit is nice and tight. The blade rates Exc++. It has spotting and throughout along with surface scratches. The steel based black enamel painted scabbard looks good. It has good looking drag, ring, both throat retaining screws and it remains completely dent free! The scabbard body shows age spidering and minor paint loss yet it retains 95%+ coverage. The multi-piece hit is constructed out of die struck aluminum and brass that has been gold gilded. The detail and hand enhancing throughout the national eagle crossguard, oak leaf motif and leopard head is gorgeous! The inlayed red glass eyes a wonderful! The wood based bakelite covered grip is in perfect condition without chips or cracks. Under the hilt it is stamped “D.R.P.” (Deutsches Reichs Patent). It is tightly wrapped in a straight/twisted wire wrap. It measures approximately 42 inches long. A great piece you are sure to be pleased with!
