Reverse Side ‐ Luftwaffe Sports Patch

Here we have the reverse side Airforce Sports Shirt Insignia (Luftwaffe Sportabzeichen)! The sports shirt eagle was introduced on July 4th 1935 and was to be worn on the front center chest of the white sleeveless sports shirt. This smaller version was to be worn on the reverse side. It is constructed out of a bevo machine embroidered black and white cotton on a white rayon base. The rectangular shaped obverse depicts a black 2nd pattern Luftwaffe eagle with outstretched wings clutching a wreathed swastika within its talons on a downward pointing triangular white cotton base and a white rectangular rayon base. To the one side it reads: “Bevo-Wuppertal”. It shows age toning and soilage. It measures approximately 7 1/2 inches wide by 3 9/16 inches tall. A nice rare piece!
