A LDO private purchased Tapferkeits und Verdienst Auszeichnung für Ostvölker 1. Klasse in Gold by L/13 - Paul Meybauer of Berlin. The 1st Class Ostvolk Medal was awarded for bravery to military and paramilitary personnel from the former Soviet Union. It is constructed out of a die struck, zinc base that has been gold gilded. The obverse depicts a centrally placed plant/flower that is surrounded by a laurel leaf wreath that is encircled by a rope pattern above two crossed broad swords and an eight pointed sunburst pattern. The reverse shows a semi-hollow back with the correct gilded; soldered on tombak block hinge, soldered on steel round plate flatwire catch and tombak coke bottle pin. The reverse is also maker marked: “L/13”. The majority of the gold gilded remains intact. This piece continues to display nice detail throughout! It measures approximately 2 inches wide and tall. A great piece!
