A Deutsches Afrikakorps Ärmelbänd. The Afrika Cufftitle, introduced on January 15th 1943, was a campaign award for a minimum of six months served in the African Campaign. Personnel who had been wounded, contracted a tropical illness, or had won a military award, regardless of the time served in the African theatre were also entitled the award. It is constructed out of machine embroidered pearl white yellow rayon on a tan/brown camel hair wool base. The obverse features, in white; “AFRIKA”, which is flanked by two palm trees, all bordered by two horizontal white lines and all lies on a tan/brown base. The top and bottom edges have been folded over and stitched together with white stitching. It has the odd loose thread catch and a few wee color marks. It retains nice color and soft texture! It measures approximately 18 ¾ inches long by 1 7/16 inches tall. A great piece!
