Cased 2nd Class Fire Brigade Service Cross

A Cased Reichsfeuerwehr-Ehrenzeichen 2. Klasse am Band 1936. Instituted 22 December 1936, it was awarded to Volunteer Fire Brigade members who had completed 25 years faithful service in the Fire Service. It is constructed out of a two pieces of die stamped nickel-silver that have been silver washed and contains red, white and black enamel work. The obverse features a centrally placed black mobile on a white round backing soldered to a Greek style cross that has red flames emanating out of each arm on a white background with a quarter circle going through each arm that reads: “Für Verdienste Im Feuerlöschwesen” (For Merit in the Fire Brigade). The reverse features a full flat back. To the top is a soldered on loop and ring. The award comes housed in its appropriate case. The case is constructed out of a wood and pressed cardboard base that is covered in a simulated grained black leather. To the front is a round steel (oxidized), spring loaded closure button. To the back is a steel, staggered, piano hinge. The interior-bottom of the case is constructed out of a pressed cardboard base that is covered in a black fibrous felt material that outlines the award. The interior top is constructed out of a pearl white silk like material and has an underlying pad. It comes with 4 ½ inches of white, red (orange tinge) and purple ribbon. The case measures approximately 2 3/8 inches wide by 2 3/4 inches deep and 13/16 of an inch thick. A great assembly, a gorgeous display piece!
