A Gau Leader Political Leader’s Visor Cap by Clemens Wagner of Braunschweig (Schirmmütze für Gauleiter). The visor is constructed out of a ribbed light tan cotton tricot with a dark brown velvet center band and red (rot) waffenfarbe piping. Attached to the obverse is a die stamped, tombak based, gold gilded 1939 pattern NSDAP cap eagle and a 1939 pattern NSDAP multi piece steel silvered and red translucent enamel cockade (with swastika) and gilded wreath. The front also features a dark brown lacquered visor peak with a cross hatched brown underside. To the sides are two peened on multi piece aluminum/steel gold gilded pebbled side buttons that hold the golden interwoven bullion chin cord in place. The interior features a worn and crazed tan sweatband that is stamped: “Deutsches Leder” along with a stitched on golden silk lining. Underneath the sweatband is a brown/white “Tuchmütze” (Cloth Cap) oilcloth RZM tag that is maker marked “4”. The clear moisture shield is lost to time. The exterior is worn with moth holes and the interior sweat band is very crazed. A high level visor!
