A Cased Type B Fallschirmschützenabzeichen der Luftwaffe by Steinhauer & Lück of Lüdenscheid. The Luftwaffe Paratrooper Badge was awarded to those who had successfully completed the paratrooper training course, consisting of physical and psychological tests along with six qualifying parachute jumps. The two-piece construction badge features a die struck cupal based and gold gilded eagle with a die struck zinc based blackened wreath. The oval shaped obverse depicts a diving Luftwaffe eagle, clutching a swastika within its talons, and is above by a blackened half laurel leaf and berry, half oak leaf and acorn wreath. The reverse displays; two sunk rivets, a soldered on steel barrel hinge, soldered on tombak round wire catch and tombak round wire pin. It measures approximately 1 5/8 inches wide by 2 1/8 inches high. Nice gilding, blackening and detail! The award comes housed in its case. The case is constructed out of a wood and pressed cardboard base that is covered in a simulated grained blue leather. To the front is a gilded steel spring loaded push button. To the back is a gilded steel, staggered, piano hinge. To the very top in the gilded Gothic style script it reads: “Fallschirmschützen - Abzeichen”. The interior-bottom of the case is constructed out of a pressed cardboard base that is covered in a dark blue fibrous felt material that outlines the pin, hinge and catch assembly. The interior top is constructed out of a purple/blue silk like material and has an underlying pad. The leather has faded with time. The case measures approximately 2 15/16 inches wide and 3 1/8 inches deep and 15/16 of an inch thick. A good cased piece!
