A Erdkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe by Rudolf A. Karneth & Sohn of Gablonz. The Luftwaffe Assault Combat Badge was authorized on April 1st 1942 and could be awarded to all soldiers, NCO's and Officers who accumulated at least three different fighting days on which they fought with bravery. It is constructed out of a die struck zinc base that has been silver washed and grey painted, blackened and finished in a lacquer coating. The oval shaped obverse features black clouds with a lightning bolt/downward pointing sig-sagged arrow coming out of it into mountains, this is all below a separately riveted on Luftwaffe eagle clutching a swastika within one of its talons and is all surrounded by an oak leaf wreath that is tied together at the bottom. The full back reverse correctly displays the “R.K.” maker mark. It also depicts the correct three-domed rivets, crimped round plate flat wire catch assembly with stress marks, crimped sheet metal hinge and steel coke bottle pin. The hinge likely broke off and appears to be re-soldered on. It measures approximately 1 5/8 inches wide by 2 3/16 inches high. A nice badge!
