Luftwaffe Officers Observer Badge in Bullion

An Officers ‘Traditional’ version Luftwaffe Beobachterabzeichen in Bullion. The Observer Badge was awarded after completion of two month qualifying service, after five operational flight as observer, or if the recipient was wounded while posted as observer (prior to the completion of the other criteria). The cloth version was authorized for wear on the flight blouse with a machine embroidered pattern for EM/NCO’s and a hand embroidered pattern for Officer’s. It is constructed out of hand embroidered silver/toned bullion work, stitched to a blue grey backing and black buckram. The obverse depicts a detailed Luftwaffe open winged eagle that is clutching a mobile swastika in its talons. The eagle is in front of a half laurel leaf half oak leaf wreath that is tied together at the bottom. The reverse displays the hand stitching and back buckrahm backing. The obverse displays beautiful details throughout the eagle and wreath. It measures approximately 2 3/8 inches wide and tall. A great piece!
